JUST DO IT!

I shall not be disturbed

From today’s reading (Ps. 16, USCCB)

R. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope.

I bless the LORD who counsels me;
even in the night my heart exhorts me.
I set the LORD ever before me;
with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.
R.
Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope.

Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices,
my body, too, abides in confidence;
Because you will not abandon my soul to the nether world,
nor will you suffer your faithful one to undergo corruption.
R.
Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope.

You will show me the path to life,
fullness of joys in your presence,
the delights at your right hand forever.
R.
Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope.

Life is so fragile. So unpredictable. Too often our hopes and dreams fade away in the face of cruel reality which threatens to steal our joy. We become caught up in the worries of this life, stuck in a morass of self-pity and fear. Yet tonight, as I meditate on this Psalm line-by-line, I know that if I set the Lord ever before me, I shall not be disturbed. My heart can be glad and rejoice because He will show me the path to life. I have this confidence in Him. I have nothing to fear, nothing about which to be sad. He is my hope.

Lord, help me to listen for your counsel and abide in you with confidence. May I always set you before me and seek to do your will. Show me the path to life. And keep me safe from evil, and especially from sin so that I may experience the fullness of joy in your presence and the delights at your right hand forever. Amen.
