From today’s reading – Ps 67:2-3, 5, 6, 8 (USCCB)
May God bless us in his mercy.
May God have pity on us and bless us;
may he let his face shine upon us.
So may your way be known upon earth;
among all nations, your salvation.May God bless us in his mercy.
May the nations be glad and exult
because you rule the peoples in equity;
the nations on the earth you guide.May God bless us in his mercy.
May the peoples praise you, O God;
may all the peoples praise you!
May God bless us,
and may all the ends of the earth fear him!May God bless us in his mercy.
This is such an appropriate passage to start the New Year. As we face another uncertain year, we can only count on God’s blessing and mercy to hold us fast. This passage should serve as our prayer for 2019, that the Lord will have pity on us and that the peoples of the earth will praise and fear him.
Father, thank you for ushering in this New Year. Time goes by so fast – the world is passing away. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on our Eternal life with You as we use every moment we have here on earth to spread Your Word and Your love. Amen.
