JUST DO IT!

Follow Me

From today’s gospel reading (USCCB), Mark 2: 13-17:

Jesus went out along the sea. All the crowd came to him and he taught them.

As he passed by, he saw Levi, son of Alphaeus, sitting at the customs post.

Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed Jesus.

While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners sat with Jesus and his disciples; for there were many who followed him.

Some scribes who were Pharisees saw that Jesus was eating with sinners
and tax collectors and said to his disciples,

“Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” Jesus heard this and said to them,

“Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do.I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

Christ has called each one of us to follow Him. But have we “gotten up” and followed Him? Are we actively pursuing Him? I heard a friend recently say that Christianity it not so much a religion but a relationship.  If we want to follow Christ, we must have a relationship with Him. This relationship is not passive; we cannot assume we have it. We must make time to spend with Him every day. We must read his Word and listen for His voice in prayer. Then He will show us what it truly means to follow Him.

Lord, I want to spend time with You but too often I allow life to get in the way. Help me to make time for You every day. Help me to make our relationship the top priority in my life. Thank you for calling me to follow You. Amen.
